Wedding Service Styles

Christian Traditional

“Dearly beloved, we have come together in the presence of God to witness the joining together of this man and woman in holy matrimony. The sacred relationship of marriage was established by God in creation, and our Lord Jesus Christ adorned marriage by His presence and first miracle at the wedding in Cana in Galilee…”

Christian Contemporary

“Friends, we have come together today at the invitation of (bride) and (groom) to share in the joy of their wedding. This outward celebration we shall see and hear is an expression of the inner love and devotion they have in their hearts. Jesus Christ reminds us that at the beginning the Creator made us male and female, and said, For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh…”

Civil

“We are gathered here today to celebrate the wedding of (bride) and (groom). This service is their way of acknowledging their love for each other and committing to live together as a family. For centuries men and women have come in this way to proclaim their love for one another and to make this commitment before friends and family. And again today (groom) and (bride) do so as a public statement of their love and intent.”

Each of these services can include various elements including:

  • Declaration of intent
  • Giving of the bride
  • Marriage vows
  • Reading of scripture
  • Exchange of rings
  • Special music
  • Lighting of the unity candle
  • Prayer for the bride and groom
  • Pronouncement of marriage

Once you decide on your style of ceremony you can add, delete or alter it to suit you. Replace a scripture with a poem or reading. Add music or comments from friends and family. Replace the unity candle with a unity sand ceremony. You are free to make your wedding exactly what you want it to be and the will work with you each step of the way.
